Important TIPS for purchasing your watch
The MOST IMPORTANT thing to remember is to buy from a TRUSTWORTHY source. We stress this very much just in case you may have to get your money back due to problems with the watch.
Have an amount in mind as to what you may want to invest, whether it be $500 dollars or $50,000 dollars. It will save you and the sales person a lot of time by having this information handy. As this amount will dictate what brand and model you will be able to acquire, whether it be a stainless steel, gold, platinum model or one with diamonds.
Do your homework and know the brand or brands you are considering, and know what the market is doing. A good source for information is eBay. Keep in mind that prices tend to be higher on eBay due to commissions that have to be paid. However, for getting a feel what watches are selling for it is a good place to start.
Ask as many questions you want from whom you are buying from, if the person or persons are not willing to answer your questions, find somewhere else to buy from. There are plenty of dealers who are always looking for new clients and are willing to answer your questions. Ask if the watch is all original, if the case is damaged, if the crystal is scratched, has it been serviced, how long is the warranty for etc..etc…
Although it may not always be possible to handle and view the timepiece you are purchasing, we strongly recommend it. There is nothing like seeing the actual watch on your wrist, how it winds, or whether it is the right style for you. If this is not possible, ask if you can return or exchange it for another model or style that feels right for you.
Ask about a two or three day trial period for wearing the watch to make sure you are making the right purchase, especially if its an expensive piece. However, don’t expect the establishment to agree to this especially if it’s a new watch. However, if it’s a pre-owned piece they may agree.
We strongly recommend the watch you are purchasing comes with the original certificate of authenticity (original papers). While many dealers will say the original papers don’t matter, at Investing In Watches the original papers do matter. While the original warranty may no longer be valid due to being expired, the Certificate of Authenticity is still the original title to the watch. Should you decide to sell or trade your watch in the future having the original papers will make a big difference. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise!
WARRANTY, Ask about the warranty, how long is it for, and what does it cover. We suggest you get at least a minimum of 6 months warranty. You should know within the first few weeks if the watch is working well. However, if you can get a longer warranty period, it’s always better for you peace of mind.
SHIPPING AND SHIPPING SERVICE, Ask about the method of shipping, how long will it take to get your watch, and who will cover the loss in case the watch is stolen (it does happen) or is delivered somewhere else by mistake.
ORIGINALITY, ask if the watch is ALL ORIGINAL, not just the watch, ask if the dial is all original or f it has been redone (we recommend an all original one, not one that has been redone, it loses value and the dial is considered NOT ORIGINAL). Ask if the bracelet is all original, and if the diamond ( if applicable) accessories are ALL FACTORY set, and NOT CUSTOMIZED. Any custom work is NOT CONSIDERED ORIGINAL and devalues the watch. DON’T LET ANYONE CONVINCE OTHERWISE.
